Remembering Hank Aaron – The Artsology Blog

I was sorry to hear the news the other day of Hank Aaron passing away. I can’t say that I ever saw much of him during his playing days, other than maybe on television when the Brewers played my hometown Minnesota Twins. But even so, his stature as the “new” home run king in 1974 certainly grabbed the attention of this young baseball fan, and I recall having a poster of him in my bedroom.

So why am I discussing Hank Aaron on an arts blog? Well, primarily to recognize a great man who endured and overcame an incredible amount of racial adversity to have a Hall of Fame career, as well as his efforts for civil rights. But I also had a picture that seems to have a few items of visual interest, related to the date of the photograph from 1976. It’s me as a 2nd grader wearing a crazy 1970s-fashion shirt, standing next to my posters of Joe Namath and Hank Aaron, in my room which was decorated with 1976 Bicentennial wallpaper – how about all of this for visual overload!
