Art – and a website – to help you Plan Your Vote – The Artsology Blog

I received an email about a new initiative that seems to be a positive thing for all Americans as we approach the upcoming presidential election: “PlanYourVote.org,” which I want to stress is a bipartisan initiative to promote and empower citizens to exercise their voting rights. The goal is to help all people, no matter which side of the political spectrum you’re on, to connect and mobilize communities to make sure we all have a voting strategy and are ready to vote in these confusing and challenging times.

A few items of importance:

The website offers you an opportunity to register to vote if you’re not already registered.

Also very important: if you’re not sure of your status, you can check to verify whether you’re already registered to vote or not.

You can request an absentee ballot here if you need one.

Lastly, you can sign up for a voting reminder here, if you think you might forget or procrastinate.

A couple things I don’t like: each of those pages has a bright animated background which drives my eyeballs crazy and is distracting, and – they are adding your email to their mailing list and one will need to unsubscribe later, if you prefer not to get more email. Why not just provide this civic service on its own?

And of course here’s something I do like: they’ve recruited artists to create images that are all available to download and share on social media to promote voter advocacy. Here’s a few of my favorites, the artists – clockwise from top left – are as follows: Derrick Adams, The Guerrilla Girls, Wangechi Mutu, and Laurie Simmons.
