Veteran 3AW broadcaster John Burns will step-down from his top-rating breakfast show Ross and John in the new year.

Burns, a former barrister, has been a prominent figure in Melbourne’s radio landscape for three decades – first as the fine-dining lawyer “Sir Lunchalot” and later as a breakfast presenter. He and his co-host, Ross Stevenson, have worked together on their early-morning program for the past 19 years.

3AW’s John Burns, left, has announced he intends to step-down from his top-rating breakfast show with Ross Stevenson in 2020.

On Friday, the rumours that Burns would soon leave the breakfast timeslot proved true. 3AW confirmed the 74-year-old will return to his top-rating program in 2020, but will step aside around the time of the Tokyo Olympics (which also happens to coincide with his 75th birthday).

“I’ve had 20 of the most fun and fruitful years of my life here and am looking forward to my next chapter with 3AW,” Burns told listeners.
